COVID-19 Efforts and Travel Recommendations

Greetings from Amami Oshima!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Amami Oshima has not set any particular restrictions upon travel to and from the island. However, we ask that all travelers to actively take care to follow the guidelines in place by the National Government and affiliated health experts.

Amami City has compiled a set of guidelines that we request to be followed before any travel to Amami Oshima. Please have a look to ensure that your travel is safe and enjoyable for everyone!

2 Weeks Beforehand

1.Avoid the ‘three Cs’: Confined spaces (with poor ventilation), Crowded places (with many people nearby), and Close contact (with people) to ensure that your risk of infection is as low as possible. Please avoid places and situations that may increase this risk as well.

2.Keep a safe distance away from others and regularly ventilate the area when indoors.

3.Follow the basic guidelines of washing hands, hand sanitizing and mask wearing!

4.Please check your health daily. Do you have a fever? A cough, runny nose, or other cold symptoms? Any lethargy? How about sense of taste and smell? An odd feeling in your throat? Refrain from traveling if you are not feeling well.

5.If there is any possibility that you have been in contact with someone who contracted COVID-19, please make your trip to Amami another time.

Day of Departure

1.Remember to bring face masks and a thermometer!

2.Take care to keep a safe distance from others, use a lower voice, and wear a mask during travel and while riding transportation.

When You Arrive

1.It is easy to be swept away by the calm atmosphere of the island, but please check and follow the new etiquette for travel, which can be viewed here: https://www.city.sasebo.lg.jp/kankou/kankou/documents/2006_newqetiqtourismleafleteng.pdf

2.Please refrain from attending large drinking parties or other gatherings.

Taking part in these guidelines helps protect those important to you and others. Thank you for your help keeping Amami Oshima safe.
