Amami Oshima is on its way to becoming a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site!

Amami Oshima, Tokunoshima, the northern area of Okinawa Island and Iriomote Island have been recommended to be added to the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site list by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature), a UNESCO advisory body. This is an important step in promoting the conservation of the valuable natural habitats of Amami Oshima and the surrounding region.

The listing should be officially approved around late July.
