Shodon

Shodon community on Kakeromajima has garnered attention both within Japan and internationally for its traditional festival ‘Shodon Shibaya,’ which has a rich history of over 800 years. This multi-faceted performance incorporates various performance styles, and is held on 9th day of the 9th month according to the lunar calendar. A row of ‘deigo’ Indian coral trees line a path alongside the beach on the edge of the community, and the adjacent Kakeromajima Exhibition & Activity Center has exhibits about the area, a café, and a souvenir shop.
