Mangrove Canoeing
Feel the deep nature of Amami and canoe through the mangrove forest in Sumiyo, the second largest mangrove forest in Japan! The mangrove forest is home to a variety of unique species, some of which are native to only Amami Oshima as well. Visitors can canoe through the winding streams of river water that meets the ocean, which created the brackish water that helped create this special ecosystem. The mangrove forest is part of the Amami Gunto National Park protected area, so visitors must take care not to damage the delicate plant and animal life while canoeing. This activity is popular rain or shine as well!
